Southern Adolescent Care Services was established in 1996. During our existence we have accommodated many young people in a total of 6 small homes.
Initially we began with a small staff team and two small rented homes. It was always our intention to buy our own houses and bring the same degree of security to the future of the organisation that we offer to the young people in our care. This has taken a number of years to achieve, but we now own our three larger homes. This has allowed us to develop a good consistency of care and maintain our premises to our own high standards.
We registered our first four-bed home in 1998, the next in 2002 and a six bed unit in 2004. This year we have registered a small unit for up to 2 residents which provides an assessment, respite or crisis placement for our existing homes or authorities to place into.
We take great pride in the fact that we have given stable home environments to many young people who have been extremely unsettled in their prior placements; frequently young people have stayed with us for years where previously weeks or months had been their usual duration of stay in a home.
