Southern Adolescent Care Services provide placements for adolescents 12-17 years old with emotional and behavioral difficulties. The following is a list of areas that are a usual function of our homes:
Victims of sexual abuse, victims of physical abuse and/or neglect, trauma, suicidal threats or attempts, self harm, bullying others, stealing from within the home, physical violence towards adults, destruction of property, sexual abuse of other children, prostitution, night time enuresis, and special dietary requirements for reasons of health, religion or culture.
We will usually accept referrals with the following characteristics provided the child meets other admission criteria:
Stealing outside of the home, substance abuse, alcohol abuse, diabetic, asthmatic, mild autism, ADHD, and eating disorders.
We are occasionally willing to consider the following, although it’s not our usual intake:
Physical violence towards children, pregnancy, speaking little or no English, speech impaired, moderate learning difficulties, Aspergers syndrome, blind/partially sighted, deaf/partially hearing.
Unfortunately we can not accept referrals for the following areas:
Fire setting, severe learning difficulties, cerebral palsy, severe autism, epilepsy, wheelchair dependent, unable to climb stairs, brain damaged with memory or cognitive impairment, requiring physical assistance in personal care due to disability, encopresis.
