“Support – It is always a comfort to know that there is support or someone that you can talk too. Supervision is worth while, it is chance to be able to go through any problems or concerns that you may be having with the young people, other staff or the job. You can use this time to work through ways to improve your life at work, if you are going through a difficult time. Also use the time to work on any targets that have been set in your appraisals or reviews. If you are having a particularly hard or difficult day then you can request supervision at any time and you do not have to wait for your next session, this makes you feel supported and cared for and you know that the organisation is looking after you.
Training – The training package that Southern Adolescent Care Services provide their employees is of a very high standard and they are always looking at different training programmes to help improve staff which will in turn provide better care for our young people. There are stages of training that need to be completed within the first year of employment and doing this training along side your job will make understanding our residents better and easier. Everyone has to complete the training and if you’re having difficult with it then, you can always ask your colleagues and they are more than happy to help.
New Ideas – Southern Adolescent Care Services are always open to new ideas from their employees, be it ways of working with our young people or making the administration side of it more effective. As an employee it is nice to know that the company are willing to try out new ideas and this means that the company is listening to you and that you feel a part of the company.
Standards – Southern Adolescent Care Services has very high standards in both the running of the home and the staff team. We expect the best from our staff when to comes to dealing with our young people. The reason why the young people are with us is because they need help and a better life so it is down to the staff to provide the best care for them. Although changes with the young people are small they are still very rewarding. As an organisation we get two inspections a year in each home, one is announced and one unannounced. All our homes do very well on these inspections and all exceed the minimum standard. This is a matter of pride as it means we are doing our best for the young people.”
